Traditional Orthodontics and Invisalign
Orthodontics
We do a LOT of orthodontics in our practice and we love doing it! In fact, we often find ourselves treating kids and adolescents – only to find that Mom and Dad, or a neighbour will set up consultations for us to straighten their teeth as well.
So whether you’re of the younger set, or one of the rest of us — we’re qualified to offer regular metal braces, various appliances and retainers or Invisalign.
Orthodontics is essentially the use of various retainers, brackets and wires to fix irregular bites or misaligned teeth. While there may be a cosmetic component for our patients wishing to pursue orthodontics, if left untreated, orthodontic problems can lead to painful jaw problems, headaches, gum disease or cavities if teeth are overcrowded and are difficult to keep clean.
If it is determined that orthodontic treatment is right for you, Dr. Walters can discuss what options are best and how long you can expect to wear your braces.
For the most part, treatment lasts between 12 and 18 months depending on your situation and we are able to place braces that are much more discreet that the ones we saw years ago. We hear over and over from our younger and adult patients alike “that the result was well worth the wait”.
Invisalign Aligner System
How many adults have resigned themselves to spending the rest of their lives with crooked or protruding teeth because they’re too shy to wear train-track braces? And how many would straighten them if they could do it without anyone else knowing?
Thanks to Invisalign, there’s no need to wonder any more. With this discreet orthodontic system, Metropolitan Dental can give you a perfect looking smile—without using any wires, brackets, or bands!
Invisalign is actually a series of clear plastic aligners that move your teeth little by little, until they reach the desired position. You change the aligners usually every 10 days, and drop into our office for a check-up every couple of months to see how things are progressing. The whole treatment is usually completed in a year!
Because they’re removable, Invisalign allows you to eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual. And, since you don’t have to clean around wires or brackets, you’re also less likely to have problems with plaque build-up, tooth decay, and gum disease.
Best of all, you won’t have to save your smile until after your Invisalign aligner come off. They’re our little secret.
